A House of Dynamite is a high-stakes political thriller film directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow—her first feature since Detroit (2017). Written by Noah Oppenheim, the story unfolds in real time, capturing the tense moments following the launch of an unidentified nuclear missile heading toward the U.S. The narrative centers on frantic efforts by White House officials, military personnel, and government operatives to determine the missile’s origin and avert catastrophe.
The film features a powerhouse cast led by Idris Elba as the U.S. President and Rebecca Ferguson as Captain Olivia Walker, a key communications officer. Supporting performances include Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Greta Lee, Jason Clarke, and others. Set against the backdrop of a real-time national crisis, the movie delivers a claustrophobic, urgent examination of the limits of power, duty, and survival at the brink of nuclear destruction.
A House of Dynamite premiered at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival, receiving critical acclaim and a prolonged standing ovation. It will be released in select theaters in the UK on October 3, followed by the U.S. on October 10, before streaming globally on Netflix from October 24, 2025.
