Hedda (2025) is a daring reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play Hedda Gabler, brought to life under the visionary direction and screenplay of Nia DaCosta. Starring and co-produced by Tessa Thompson, the film follows Hedda as she navigates a single, whirlwind night filled with intoxicating desire, manipulation, and betrayal—now redefined through a modern queer lens. Set against a lavish period backdrop, the narrative centers on the power dynamics and emotional entanglements between Hedda, her troubled spouse, and her former lover, reimagined as a woman.
Featuring a stellar ensemble including Imogen Poots, Tom Bateman, Nicholas Pinnock, and Nina Hoss, Hedda unfolds as a stylish, emotionally charged thriller that blends dark comedy with dramatic tension. After its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film will be released theatrically in October 2025 before arriving on Prime Video later that month.
