Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, The Bengal Files is the final chapter in his much-talked-about “Files Trilogy” after The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files. Scheduled to release on 5 September 2025 (Teachers’ Day), the film brings to light a chapter of Indian history that has long remained in shadows.
Set against the backdrop of Direct Action Day (Calcutta killings, 1946) and the Noakhali riots, the movie delves into the stories of pain, displacement, and communal violence that altered Bengal forever. Agnihotri presents it as an erased genocide, questioning why such incidents were never given space in mainstream discourse.
