Matka King (2026)<\/strong> series is a major collaboration between National Award-winning director Nagraj Manjule (Sairat) and Vijay Varma, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday alongside the show’s promotional rollout.<\/p>\n

Set in the bustling, fast-changing Bombay of the 1960s, the story follows Brij Bhatti (Vijay Varma), an ambitious and clever cotton trader living in the crowded chawls. Craving legitimacy and respect in a society that looks down on his background, Brij spots a gap in the city’s shifting economic landscape.<\/p>\n

He introduces a revolutionary gambling game called “Matka,” which uses the opening and closing rates of cotton as the basis for betting. Unlike the elite clubs reserved for the rich, Brij\u2019s game is “democratized,” allowing ordinary workers and the poor to participate with small stakes.<\/p>\n
