Synopsis

This Telugu horror-comedy thriller centers on Eera Babu (also known as Veeru), a young man who returns to his ancestral village from the USA with the singular goal of marrying his childhood sweetheart. However, his romantic plans are quickly derailed when he discovers she is set to marry someone else. In a state of drunken despair after failing to stop the wedding, Veeru ends up spending a night at a deserted and allegedly haunted village fort—a place that the locals have shunned for generations due to a terrifying ancient legend.

The narrative shifts into a “fantasy-comedy” gear as it explores the mystery of the fort and the ancient Brahma Rakshasa that is said to reside within its walls. Veeru finds himself entangled in a village curse that demands a life sacrifice, forcing him to confront both supernatural threats and the “blind faith” of the villagers that has persisted for thousands of years. The film balances its spooky elements with high-energy humor, focusing on Veeru’s desperate attempts to survive the night while debunking the myths surrounding the fort.

The story serves as an “adventure-filled” commentary on superstition, using the protagonist’s modern outsider perspective to challenge age-old traditions. The middle act is particularly noted for its engaging moments inside the fort, blending practical effects with a gritty production design that makes the supernatural elements feel grounded. It draws inspiration from classic Indian fantasy adventures, focusing on the protagonist’s growth from a heartbroken traveler to an accidental hero fighting a cosmic evil.

Ultimately, Raakaasa is a lighthearted yet suspenseful entertainer designed for a family audience. It concludes with an explosive confrontation that resolves the village’s long-standing curse and Veeru’s own personal journey of self-discovery. Directed by debutant Manasa Sharma and produced by Niharika Konidela, the film was a significant box-office success, grossing approximately ₹27 crore against its ₹15 crore budget, proving that the horror-comedy genre remains a strong draw in the “alt-history” of 2026 cinema.
