Synopsis

Mr. Housekeeping is a 2025 Tamil-language romantic comedy that marks the silver screen debut of popular YouTuber Hari Baskar. The film is a light-hearted exploration of unrequited love and the importance of consent.

The story follows “Honest” Raj (Hari Baskar), a young man struggling with low self-esteem and a history of misguided romantic attempts. During his college days, Honest makes a bold and somewhat toxic public proposal to his classmate Isai (Losliya Mariyanesan). Isai, feeling “tortured” by his persistent attention, flatly rejects him, leading to a heated exchange where Honest makes a desperate claim about his future success.

Four years later, Honest is down on his luck and struggling to find a stable career. Through a twist of fate, he ends up taking a job as a housekeeper at a house that, unbeknownst to him, belongs to Isai. Initially embarrassed and seeking to hide his identity, Honest is forced to swallow his pride and continue the job due to his desperate financial situation. Isai, now a confident professional, treats him with disdain, unaware of their past connection at first.

As Honest performs his daily chores, the power dynamic between the two shifts. The film uses their interactions to highlight the “dignity of labor,” a message reinforced by Honest’s father (played by Ilavarasu). Despite the humiliation he often faces, Honest begins to develop genuine feelings for Isai again, but this time, he must navigate the fine line between persistence and respecting her boundaries—especially as she prepares for her own engagement.
