Synopsis

Eko (2025) is a gripping Malayalam mystery thriller set in the remote, mist-covered hills of Kaattukunnu. The story follows an elderly woman named Mlaathi and her young caretaker, Peeyoos, who live a quiet, secluded life. Their peace is interrupted when several strangers arrive in the mountains looking for Mlaathi’s husband, Kuriyachan, a legendary dog breeder and fugitive who has been missing for years.

As these outsiders—ranging from suspicious businessmen to undercover law enforcement—dig deeper into Kuriyachan’s whereabouts, the film transitions into a tense game of cat and mouse. The narrative masterfully weaves between the present and the past, revealing Kuriyachan’s history with rare dog breeds and his mysterious connections that span across borders and decades.

The film explores the thin line between “protection” and “restriction.” The massive, highly-trained dogs that roam the estate are not just pets; they are central to the mystery, acting as both guardians and potential threats. As the hunt for Kuriyachan intensifies, Peeyoos and Mlaathi are forced to confront dark secrets that have been hidden in the forest for a long time.
