Synopsis

The Chair Company is a 2025 comedy-thriller series that has become one of the year’s most discussed “cringe-horror” shows.

The series follows William Ronald “Ron” Trosper, a suburban project manager in Ohio whose life is upended by a seemingly minor embarrassment. During a high-stakes work presentation intended to be the crowning achievement of his career, Ron sits down and his office chair immediately collapses. Rather than laughing it off, Ron becomes obsessed with holding the manufacturer, a shadowy company called Tecca, accountable.

His quest for a simple apology quickly spirals into a paranoid investigation. When he visits the company’s headquarters and finds a completely empty building, Ron becomes convinced he has stumbled upon a far-reaching corporate conspiracy. He begins spending his family’s savings on “surveillance equipment” (including a burner phone hidden in a water bottle) and following bizarre leads that connect everything from local mall developments to mysterious actors.

As Ron descends further into his “conspiracy logic,” his relationships with his wife, Barb, and his two children begin to fracture. While his family sees a man suffering a midlife crisis, Ron sees a world where every customer service line and local bureaucrat is part of a malevolent network designed to hasten his insanity. The show expertly blurs the line between whether the conspiracy is real or if Ron is simply projecting his own existential failures onto a broken chair.

The first season culminates in a surreal finale involving a 3D-printed gun, a man in a hockey mask, and a shocking revelation about a high school grudge. It leaves viewers questioning the nature of truth in a world optimized to make individuals feel isolated and unhinged.
