Synopsis

The story centers on Safia, a young woman living in a modest neighborhood where tradition and gender roles are deeply entrenched. Her life is upended when her father, Salman, a respected local barber, falls seriously ill and is unable to work. As the family’s sole breadwinner, his absence leaves them vulnerable, and their small barber shop—the family’s only legacy—is suddenly at risk of being shut down forever.

The situation becomes dire when a local moneylender begins to circle like a vulture, demanding repayment and eyeing the shop’s prime location. He believes that with Salman incapacitated, there is no one left to defend the family’s interests. Safia realizes that if she doesn’t act quickly, her family will lose everything they have worked for over decades.

In a desperate and courageous bid for survival, Safia decides to do the unthinkable: she cuts her hair and disguises herself as a young man named “Safdar.” She takes over the razors and chairs of her father’s salon, stepping into a hyper-masculine world where a female barber is unheard of. The film meticulously tracks her transformation, showing the physical and emotional toll of living a dual life.

As “Safdar,” she must not only master the technical skill of barbering but also navigate the complex social dynamics of the neighborhood men who frequent the shop. While her father’s health remains precarious, Safia finds herself caught in a high-stakes game of identity. Every day is a test of her resolve as she balances her duties as a daughter with the secret identity she has assumed to keep the moneylender at bay.

Ultimately, the film is a poignant social drama that challenges the rigid structures of patriarchy and celebrates the resilience of the human spirit. It highlights a daughter’s unwavering love and her willingness to sacrifice her own identity to protect her family’s dignity. Safia’s journey from a sheltered daughter to the gritty “Safdar” serves as a powerful testament to breaking barriers in the face of adversity.
