Synopsis

Set against the nostalgic backdrop of late-1990s Seoul, Undercover Miss Hong is a vibrant crime-comedy that follows Hong Geum-bo, a sharp and dedicated 35-year-old elite supervisor at the Financial Supervisory Service. Known as the “Witch of Yeouido” for her ruthless efficiency, Geum-bo’s life revolves entirely around her work until a suspicious fatal car accident involving a key informant leads her to a massive stock manipulation scheme. To uncover the truth and recover hidden ledgers, she must infiltrate Hanmin Investment & Securities, a firm riddled with corruption and hidden agendas.

Leveraging her remarkably youthful appearance, Geum-bo assumes the identity of her 20-year-old sister, Hong Jang-mi. She successfully passes the company’s recruitment exam with top scores and enters as a lowly, entry-level employee. The drama masterfully balances high-stakes financial investigation with “fish-out-of-water” humor as Geum-bo struggles to adapt to the social trends and workplace hierarchy of a younger generation, all while operating in the shadows to identify a mysterious whistleblower known as “Yehppee.”

The mission becomes unexpectedly personal when the newly appointed CEO of the firm turns out to be Shin Jung-woo, Geum-bo’s ex-boyfriend. Jung-woo, a cold and calculated “corporate hunter,” is immediately suspicious of the new recruit who bears an uncanny resemblance to the woman he once loved. To protect her cover, Geum-bo must navigate complex office politics, help her ambitious roommate Go Bok-hee become Jung-woo’s secretary, and keep her distance from the man who knows her best.

As the investigation deepens, the line between her two identities begins to blur. Geum-bo discovers that the corporate greed she is fighting is deeply entangled with the lives of her new coworkers, whom she has grown to care for. The narrative explores themes of redemption, trust, and the societal pressures of 1990s Korea, building toward a climax where Geum-bo must decide if she can achieve justice without losing the new sense of self she discovered while living as “Miss Hong.”
