Synopsis

Half Man is a gritty, time-jumping drama that serves as the highly anticipated follow-up project from Richard Gadd, the creator of the Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer. The six-part limited series tells the complex story of Niall and Ruben, two men who are not related by blood but share a bond as strong as any brotherhood. Brought into each other’s lives through death and circumstance during their youth, they become inseparable, defined by their contrasting personalities—one fierce and loyal, the other meek and mild-mannered.The narrative shifts across three decades, beginning in the 1980s and moving through to the present day. The story is set in motion when, thirty years after their youthful closeness, Ruben suddenly arrives at Niall’s wedding. Something is deeply wrong; Ruben is shifty, on edge, and clearly not himself. His arrival triggers an explosion of violence that forces the audience to traverse their shared history to understand how their relationship reached this breaking point.

As the series unfolds, it captures the intense fragility of male relationships and the destructive nature of suppressed rage. It explores how deep-seated trauma and the weight of their past decisions have shaped them into “broken men.” By peeling back the layers of their three-decade-long journey, the show examines themes of brotherhood, violence, and the realization that when things fall apart, it is often the closest of relationships that break with the most devastating impact
