Synopsis

The film follows Macy, a young woman whose life is derailed during a romantic getaway with her boyfriend, Chase. While in the remote woods, they encounter a towering, mute, and monstrous figure wearing a cracked porcelain doll mask and a tattered red outfit. After a brutal confrontation that leaves Macy alone and terrified, she is abducted by the creature—known as “Dolly”—who drags her to a decaying, filth-ridden Victorian house in the middle of nowhere.

Once inside the house, the narrative shifts into a claustrophobic and deeply unsettling psychological survival horror. Dolly, an inbred and physically imposing woman, does not intend to kill Macy immediately; instead, she is obsessed with a “wicked maternity game.” She treats the adult Macy as a toddler, dressing her in children’s clothes and forcing her to participate in a warped version of domestic life. Macy is forced to “play along” with these delusions to stay alive while desperately searching for a way to escape her captor.

As the story progresses, Macy discovers that she is part of a long cycle of “motherhood” for the creature. The film emphasizes a gritty, 1970s “video nasty” aesthetic, using 16mm film textures to heighten the sense of decay and isolation. The horror is both physical and psychological, focusing on the tension between Macy’s modern independence and the primitive, ritualistic obsession of the villain. The atmosphere is thick with a sense of suspended time, where the boundaries between the past and present blur.

The climax is a visceral, high-stakes battle for freedom as Macy’s patience and sanity reach their breaking point. She must use every ounce of her resolve to outsmart the lumbering, powerful Dolly. The confrontation involves harrowing practical effects and culminates in a desperate struggle that reveals the true, twisted face behind the porcelain mask. Ultimately, the film is a brutal exploration of survival, maternity gone wrong, and the terrifying power of a delusion that refuses to die.
