Synopsis

Hive(2026) features Xochitl Gomez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) in her first major lead role since joining the MCU, and it is being positioned as one of Tubi’s most ambitious “Gen Z” horror.

Sasha (Xochitl Gomez) is a tightly wound, highly anxious teenager who is desperate to save up enough money for her college tuition. To achieve this, she accepts a high-paying babysitting gig for an affluent couple living in an eerie, heavily gated suburban neighborhood. Her task seems simple enough: look after their young daughter, Zaley, for an afternoon. However, the job quickly takes a dark turn when Zaley exhibits a cruel sense of humor and a disturbing obsession with playing pranks that prey specifically on Sasha’s mental health.

The situation spirals into a full-blown nightmare when Sasha takes Zaley to the local playground. In a split second of distraction, the child vanishes into thin air. As a panicked Sasha frantically searches the area, she begins to notice that the other children in the park are behaving in a synchronized, menacing fashion. The playground, typically a place of innocent play, transforms into a predatory “hive” where the children seem to be controlled by a singular, sinister consciousness.

As day turns to night, Sasha realizes that she isn’t just looking for one lost child; she is being hunted by an entire neighborhood of possessed youth. The “hive mind” begins to distort Sasha’s perception of reality, making her question what is human and what is a cleverly disguised part of the sinister force. To survive, she must outwit a community where the adults are oblivious or complicit, and the children have turned their playground into a literal “slayground.”

The film explores themes of social anxiety, the pressure of responsibility, and the terrifying concept of “evil in plain sight.” Sasha’s battle is as much against her own unraveling mind as it is against the physical threats surrounding her. The final act promises a claustrophobic survival struggle as Sasha attempts to break free from the gated community before the hive consumes her permanently.
