Synopsis

The psychological horror thriller Honey (2026) is currently the talk of the town as it transitions from a dark theatrical run to its digital premiere on February 27, 2026. Directed by the critically acclaimed Karuna Kumar (Palasa 1978), the film moves away from the typical “ghost in the house” tropes, opting instead for a visceral exploration of how financial ruin can drive a man toward the abyss of madness and occult obsession.

The story centers on Anand (played by Naveen Chandra), a middle-class man who has reached a breaking point due to chronic unemployment and mounting debt. In his desperation to secure a future for his family, he abandons logic and begins to sink into the world of extreme superstitions and blood rituals. Anand becomes convinced that an ancient, dark power can solve his problems, but this obsession quickly transforms from a secret hope into a terrifying domestic prison for his wife, Lalitha (Divya Pillai), and their young daughter, Meera.

The narrative takes a chilling turn when Meera begins communicating with an invisible entity she refers to as “Honey.” While Anand views this as a sign that his rituals are working, the audience is left to wonder if “Honey” is a genuine supernatural force or a psychological manifestation of the trauma the child is suffering at the hands of her father’s spiraling insanity. This ambiguity creates a constant sense of dread, as the family’s home in a remote rural setting becomes a battleground between reality and the horrifying delusions born of Anand’s blind faith.

As the rituals demand higher stakes, the film reaches a disturbing climax that serves as a social commentary on the dangers of religious exploitation and moral collapse. It portrays a “broken family” dynamic where the real monster isn’t a spirit under the bed, but the very person supposed to be their protector. By the final act, the film forces the viewer to confront the unsettling truth that the most permanent scars are often inflicted by those driven by greed and a refusal to face the harshness of reality
