Synopsis

The film Masthishka Maranam (2026), directed by National Award winner Krishand (Aavasavyuham, Purusha Pretham), originally hit theaters on February 27, 2026. While it had a niche theatrical run, it has quickly gained a “cult” reputation online for its bold, exSet in a dystopian, high-tech version of Kochi (dubbed Neo-Kochi) in the year 2046, the world is dominated by AI, surveillance drones, and a consumerist culture where even memories are commodified.

The story follows Bimal Raj (Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju), a young father paralyzed by grief following the death of his daughter. While his wife chooses to surgically erase all memories of their child to move on, Bimal refuses. He becomes addicted to a “Memory Empathy” VR game that allows users to experience the near-death memories of others.

The plot takes a dark turn when Bimal accidentally accesses a “leaked memory” belonging to Frida Soman (Rajisha Vijayan), a human superstar in an era of AI celebrities. In this glitchy, unauthorized simulation, Bimal witnesses what appears to be a gruesome murder. His quest to find the truth behind this “memory” pulls him into a chaotic web of media sensationalism, corporate greed, and voyeurism, forcing him to question what is real in a world made of “frankenbitten” digital fragments.perimental take on science fiction.

Despite a modest box office performance, the director has already announced that a second part is in development, with filming expected to begin in July 2026.
