Synopsis
Santhana Prapthirasthu is a Telugu-language comedy-drama that addresses the sensitive and often taboo subject of male infertility with a light-hearted, conversational approach.
The story follows Chaitanya, an introverted and socially awkward software engineer living in Hyderabad. His quiet life takes a turn when he helps a young woman named Kalyani during a chance encounter. What begins as a brief meeting blossoms into a deep romance. However, their path to happiness is blocked by Kalyani’s father, Eshwar Rao, who strongly disapproves of Chaitanya. Despite this fierce opposition, the couple decides to marry secretly, hoping that the eventual arrival of a grandchild will soften the father’s heart and lead to a family reconciliation.
Settling into married life, the couple focuses on starting a family as a way to bridge the gap with Kalyani’s father. The narrative takes a significant turn when Chaitanya discovers he has a low sperm count. This medical revelation shatters their plans and plunges Chaitanya into a spiral of personal insecurity and social anxiety. The situation is further complicated when Eshwar Rao arrives in town to stay with them, unaware of the medical diagnosis but increasingly suspicious of why he hasn’t heard “good news” yet.
The conflict escalates into a “100-day challenge” set by the father-in-law, who demands that Kalyani become pregnant within that timeframe or face separation. Chaitanya, desperate to save his marriage and protect his secret, seeks medical help from the eccentric Dr. Bhramaram. The second half of the film balances the absurdity of Chaitanya’s attempts to “fix” his condition with the genuine emotional strain the secret puts on his relationship with Kalyani.
Ultimately, the film explores how the couple navigates social pressure, medical misconceptions, and the judgmental gaze of family. Rather than relying on heavy melodrama, it uses humor—led by a cast of quirky supporting characters—to deconstruct the stigma surrounding fertility. The story concludes by emphasizing that the strength of a marriage lies in mutual understanding and honesty rather than just meeting societal expectations of parenthood.
