Synopsis

Thamma (2025) is the fifth installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (the same world as Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya). Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film was released on October 21, 2025, for the Diwali weekend.

The story follows Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a timid and slightly bumbling television journalist from Delhi. While on a jungle assignment, Alok is attacked by a wild bear. He is rescued by a mysterious woman named Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna), who belongs to a secret clan of Betaals (vampires). Tadaka is drawn to the sound of Alok’s heartbeat—something her own kind lacks—and the two form an unlikely romantic bond.

As their relationship grows, Alok discovers that the Betaal clan lives by strict ancient rules: they are forbidden from drinking human blood and must stay hidden from civilization. However, their rogue former leader, Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), is a bloodthirsty tyrant who was imprisoned for violating these laws during the 1947 Partition. Yakshasan seeks to break free and reclaim his power, viewing the arrival of a human like Alok as the perfect catalyst for his return.

Against the warnings of her clan, Tadaka follows Alok back to the city of Delhi, where she tries to blend in under the name “Tarika.” This leads to a series of comedic cultural clashes, especially with Alok’s suspicious father (Paresh Rawal). However, the situation turns dark when Alok is accidentally bitten and begins a painful transformation into a Betaal himself. He must learn to control his newfound supernatural powers while navigating his double life as a journalist.

The film builds to a supernatural showdown when Yakshasan finally escapes his cave and threatens to plunge the world into darkness. Alok must embrace his “rebel” spirit and his vampire side to lead the Betaal clan against Yakshasan. In a massive crossover moment, Bhaskar (Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya) and Jana (Abhishek Banerjee) appear to help Alok, setting the stage for a future war between werewolves and vampires.
