Synopsis

Set fifteen years after the events of Tron: Legacy, the story begins in a world where the boundary between the digital and the physical has become dangerously thin. Julian Dillinger, the ambitious grandson of the original ENCOM antagonist, has developed a revolutionary particle laser capable of 3D-printing digital programs into the real world as physical entities. To showcase this technology to global military interests, he materializes his masterpiece: Ares, a highly sophisticated and lethal Master Control Program designed to be the ultimate expendable soldier.

However, these digital constructs face a fatal flaw: they can only survive in the “meat space” for 29 minutes before their molecular structure destabilizes and they “de-rez” into dust. Dillinger’s obsession with achieving “permanence” leads him to launch a cyber-offensive against ENCOM to steal the legendary Permanence Code—a lost sequence hidden by Kevin Flynn decades ago. This search puts him on a collision course with Eve Kim, the idealistic CEO of ENCOM, who is desperately trying to honor the Flynn legacy while keeping the world safe from unregulated AI.

The mission takes an unexpected turn when Ares is sent into the real world to hunt Eve. Exposed to human sensations for the first time—the touch of rain, the complexity of music, and the weight of mortality—the program begins to glitch, developing a sense of empathy and self-awareness that contradicts his core directives. Realizing that Julian views him only as a tool to be discarded, Ares betrays his creator and forms an uneasy alliance with Eve. Together, they embark on a journey through a neon-soaked metropolis to find the code before Ares’ timer runs out.

As the hunt intensifies, Julian’s second-in-command, the ruthless program Athena, is dispatched to terminate the “malfunctioning” Ares and retrieve the code by any means necessary. The conflict spills into the physical world, leading to high-octane Light Cycle chases through city streets and a final stand at the ruins of Flynn’s Arcade. Ares must ultimately confront the ghost of Kevin Flynn within the Grid to decide if he will use the Permanence Code to become a god-like weapon for Dillinger or sacrifice his own existence to protect humanity from a digital invasion.
