Synopsis

Ballard 2025 is a major crime thriller series released this year. It is a spin-off of the popular Bosch and Bosch: Legacy franchise, based on the novels by Michael Connelly.

The story follows Detective Renée Ballard, a fierce and empathetic investigator who takes charge of the LAPD’s newly formed, underfunded Cold Case Unit. Working out of a small office with a team largely made up of volunteers, Ballard is tasked with solving the city’s most difficult long-forgotten crimes. She often finds herself at odds with the department’s bureaucracy, choosing to play by her own rules to find justice for victims.

As she reopens decades-old files—including the high-profile murder of a councilman’s sister—she uncovers a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the LAPD. The investigation becomes personal as she realizes that some of the people she is supposed to trust might be the ones covering up the truth.

To navigate this web of corruption, Ballard teams up with retired legendary detective Harry Bosch. Together, they bridge the gap between old-school detective work and modern forensics to hunt down a serial killer who has evaded capture for years.

The series also explores Ballard’s personal life, including her connection to the ocean as a surfer and her relationship with her grandmother, “Tutu.” It balances intense procedural action with a character-driven look at the emotional toll of carrying the weight of “lost” cases.
