Synopsis

The series follows Marshall Cuso, a fungi expert and social oddball, who discovers a rare, mysterious mushroom known as the “Blue Angel.” This mushroom is a medical miracle, possessing the power to cure almost any human ailment or injury. Realizing the magnitude of his find, Marshall reaches out to his former high school lab partner, Frances Applewhite, hoping she can help him share it with the world.

However, the discovery quickly turns into a nightmare as Marshall and Frances become targets of a massive conspiracy. Powerful forces, including corrupt “Big Pharma” executives, international businessmen, and a determined DEA task force, all want the mushroom suppressed. They view a universal cure as a threat to a billion-dollar healthcare industry that thrives on treating chronic illnesses rather than curing them.

As Marshall and Frances go on the run, they must navigate a dangerous world of high-stakes espionage and corporate greed. The journey tests their bond as Frances, who works for one of the pharmaceutical companies, struggles with her own ambition and her desperate need to save her mother, who is suffering from dementia.

The show blends surreal, hallucinatory animation with a gritty, “10’s style action thriller” vibe. It explores deep themes of capitalism, morality, and the democratization of medicine, all while maintaining a dark, satirical humor that highlights the absurdity of the “screw-ups” involved on both sides of the law.
