Synopsis

The final chapter begins with Hartley High’s students returning to a school still reeling from the devastating fire at the end of Year 11. While the school undergoes repairs, the graduating class is under immense pressure to maintain “perfect” behavior under the watchful eye of a hyper-vigilant Principal Woodsy. However, the peace is shattered when a high-stakes revenge prank—initially intended to humiliate a rival—spirals into a near-fatal accident. Amerie, Harper, and their inner circle are forced to hide the truth, leading to a “Muck Up Day” that feels less like a celebration and more like a crime scene cover-up.

As the secret begins to fracture the group, the season tackles the terrifying reality of what comes after Hartley. For Amerie, this means finally facing her trauma without her usual “chaos-magnet” defense mechanisms. The stakes for the group’s “outsiders” have also never been higher: Quinni (Chloé Hayden) is navigating her role as school captain while resisting the urge to re-mask her autism for the sake of institutional approval, and Darren (James Majoos) and Ca$h (Will McDonald) must decide if their connection is strong enough to survive the different paths adulthood is carving out for them.

The emotional center of the season remains the mystery of Malakai Mitchell (Thomas Weatherall). Having fled to Switzerland at the end of Season 2, his absence has left a hole in Amerie’s life that no amount of distraction can fill. The trailer hints at a cinematic reunion, but it’s one fraught with the reality that they are no longer the same kids who danced at the graveyard. The season asks if it’s possible to outrun your reputation, or if the “Bird Psycho” and “Incest Map” legacies will follow them beyond the school gates.

“Heartbreak Anthem” (Lyrics)

[Verse 1] Static in the hallway, echoes in the locker line Counting down the seconds, running out of borrowed time We were neon bright, now we’re fading into grey Just another ‘sorry’ that we didn’t get to say

[Chorus] Oh, it’s a long way down from the Hartley high Underneath the smoke of a bruised-up sky Yeah, we’re burning out, but we’re doing it right One last heartbreak, one last night Give me one more high before the final goodbye.

[Outro] Hearts on the map, blood on the floor We aren’t those kids anymore.
