Synopsis
Season 4 of Industry resets the board as the survivors of the Pierpoint & Co. collapse navigate a new financial landscape dominated by high-stakes “fintech” and predatory short-selling. Set one year after the bank was stripped for parts, the narrative finds Harper Stern and her former mentor Eric Tao operating their own fund, SternTao. Their primary target is Tender, a massive payment-processing platform dubbed the “PayPal of Bukkake” for its deep-seated ties to the adult entertainment industry. As they attempt to short the company, they enter a cutthroat game against its enigmatic co-founders and a world of institutional secrets.
Yasmin Kara-Hanani, now married to the disgraced but wealthy Sir Henry Muck, finds herself back in the professional fray as a high-level executive at Tender. This placement puts her in direct opposition to Harper, reigniting their volatile and co-dependent rivalry. The season explores the “transactional intimacy” of their lives, as Yasmin navigates political influence in the British Parliament while Harper manipulates market vulnerabilities. The boundaries between personal loyalty and professional survival blur as they backstab their way through London and Accra.
The arrival of a relentless financial journalist, Jim Dycker, adds a layer of “proper thriller mode” to the season. Chasing a career-defining scoop on Tender’s sketchy acquisitions, Jim becomes a common threat to both the short-sellers and the tech firm. The narrative delves into the psychological toll of their ambitions, showing Eric’s descent into vulnerability as he struggles with his legacy, and Rishi’s desperate survival tactics following the violent fallout of his gambling debts in the previous season.
As the season progresses toward its finale, the “folie à deux” between tech founders and their investors threatens to ignite. The characters are forced to confront whether any of their backbreaking success has made them less alone, or if they have simply become the very monsters they once feared. The story culminates in a global chase for data and power, culminating in a series of betrayals that suggest that in the world of high finance, context is the only thing that cannot be stripped away.
