Synopsis

Running Point Season 2 brings the LA Waves back to the court and this time, Isla Gordon is no longer the underdog nobody took seriously. She proved herself in Season 1. Now everyone is watching and waiting for her to stumble.

The second season picks up with Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) firmly established as the president of the Los Angeles Waves, but she is no longer the “surprise choice” that caught the sports world off guard. With the franchise finally rebounding and becoming a top contender for the championship, the pressure has shifted from simply surviving the job to proving she is a permanent fixture in the front office. Isla is determined to show the board, the players, and her skeptical family that she isn’t just “keeping the seat warm” for her older brother, Cam (Justin Theroux).

However, a major threat looms within her own inner circle. After completing his stint in rehab, Cam has returned to the team’s headquarters with a hidden agenda. While appearing supportive on the surface, he is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to undermine Isla’s executive decisions and reclaim his former post as president. Every administrative hurdle from a crumbling stadium infrastructure to navigating the team’s complex finances is being turned into ammunition by Cam as he waits for Isla to make a single, career-ending misstep.

The on-court dynamics are equally chaotic as the team welcomes a new head coach, Norm Stinson (Ray Romano), a legendary but eccentric basketball savant who has spent years as a social recluse. Isla must find a way to manage Norm’s unorthodox coaching style while also integrating a “pretty-boy” star point guard, Tommy White (Jake Picking), into a locker room already filled with the high-energy antics of Travis Bugg (Chet Hanks) and the quiet intensity of veteran star Marcus Winfield (Toby Sandeman).

Personal complications further muddy the waters for Isla. Following the collapse of her engagement to Lev (Max Greenfield) and a “will-they-won’t-they” kiss with former head coach Jay Brown (Jay Ellis), she is struggling to find a balance between her professional ambitions and her own search for stability. As Jay prepares for a new chapter in Boston and Lev remains a constant presence in her life, Isla realizes that every decision she makes off the court carries as much weight as a buzzer-beater in the playoffs.

The 10-episode season explores the high cost of running a modern sports empire, where family loyalty is often at odds with corporate survival. To close out the season on top, Isla will have to rip up her old game plan and develop a whole new strategy that protects both her team and her legacy. The narrative promises to deepen the Gordon family drama while maintaining the sharp, satirical edge that made the first season a sleeper hit.
