Synopsis

The series follows Dr. Kay Scarpetta (Nicole Kidman), a brilliant and unrelenting forensic pathologist who returns to her hometown of Richmond, Virginia, to resume her former role as Chief Medical Examiner. The narrative unfolds across two timelines: the late 1990s, during her early career, and the present day.

As she investigates a grisly new murder, she realizes it bears a chilling resemblance to the career-defining case she worked on 28 years prior. Scarpetta must navigate a “barrel of monkeys” involving a strained relationship with her flighty sister, Dorothy (Jamie Lee Curtis), while unmasking a serial killer before her past mistakes undo her future.

Casting Fun Fact

In a clever casting move for the dual-timeline structure, Jake Cannavale plays the younger version of Pete Marino, the character portrayed in the present day by his real-life father, Bobby Cannavale. Similarly, Rosy McEwen plays the younger Kay Scarpetta, earning praise for her uncanny resemblance to Kidman.
