Synopsis

Based on the announcement from Netflix earlier this month, the highly anticipated adaptation of Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk’s classic novel, The Museum of Innocence (Masumiyet Müzesi), is set to premiere globally on Netflix.

This nine-part Turkish period drama is a landmark collaboration, marking the first time Pamuk has worked with a Turkish director for a major screen adaptation of his work.

Set against the vibrant and socially shifting backdrop of 1970s Istanbul, the series follows Kemal, the heir to one of the city’s wealthiest families. While preparing for his high-society wedding to the elegant Sibel, Kemal’s life is permanently derailed by a chance encounter with Füsun, a beautiful shop assistant and distant, impoverished relative.

What begins as a passionate, secret affair evolves into a lifelong, all-consuming obsession. After Füsun mysteriously disappears following Kemal’s engagement, he becomes a “collector” of her existence—hoarding everything from her hairclips and earrings to her discarded cigarette butts. The narrative spans decades, exploring the fine line between deep love and obsessive fixation, ultimately leading Kemal to transform his memories into a physical “Museum of Innocence” to preserve the happiness of the moments they shared.
