Synopsis

Trust Me: The False Prophet is a chilling four-part true-crime docuseries that delves into the disturbing world of the Short Creek community. The series follows the undercover journey of a filmmaker, Tolga Katas, and a cult expert, Christine Marie, as they attempt to infiltrate a polygamist sect. Their goal is to expose Samuel Bateman, a self-proclaimed “prophet” who claimed to be the heir to the notorious Warren Jeffs.

Unlike a standard retrospective, the show uses immersive, on-the-ground footage to show how Bateman exerted psychological control and spread fear within an already fractured community. Through exclusive interviews with survivors and “escapees,” the docuseries illustrates the terrifying mechanisms of modern cult leadership and the bravery of those who finally chose to speak out to bring the truth to light.
