Synopsis

Twisted Yoga is a deeply disturbing, meticulously crafted true crime docuseries that exposes one of the most shocking yoga cult scandals in recent memory a story of spiritual manipulation, sexual exploitation, and the long road to justice.

The series follows a group of young yoga students from around the world drawn to the ancient practice in search of inner peace and purpose, only to fall under the influence of reclusive Romanian “guru” Gregorian Bivolaru the spiritual leader of an international network of yoga studios specializing in tantric rituals.

As they begin to fear they have joined a cult, they discover that Bivolaru who often summoned select female students to his Paris apartment for private initiations has a deeply troubling past.

What was presented as a path to spiritual enlightenment was, in reality, a carefully constructed system of coercive control and manipulation designed to grant Bivolaru unfettered access to vulnerable young women.

Ex-members of the tantric yoga school speak out about how they went from searching for wellness and community to fearing they had joined a cult and their fight for justice for the alleged abuse and manipulation at the hands of this self-styled spiritual leader.

Bivolaru now faces charges in France including human trafficking, kidnapping, and rape allegations he denies as these women work with French authorities to convict him.

Their courage, resilience, and refusal to be silenced sits at the heart of this harrowing and ultimately empowering documentary.
