Synopsis

Narivetta (Jackal Hunt) is a hard-hitting political action thriller inspired by the real-life 2003 Muthanga incident in Kerala. The story follows Varghese Peter, an aspirational young man from Alappuzha who, after failing several civil service exams and facing pressure from his family and girlfriend, reluctantly joins the Kerala Police as a Civil Police Officer. He is posted to a volatile tribal region in Wayanad, where the local Adivasi community is protesting for land rights against state-sanctioned encroachment.

Initially, Varghese is indifferent to the socio-political struggle, viewing his job merely as a stepping stone to higher office. He finds a mentor and father figure in Head Constable Basheer Ahammed, a seasoned officer who helps him navigate the rigors of the force. However, as tensions escalate between the tribal leaders, led by the defiant C.K. Shanthi, and the state authorities, Varghese is forced to confront the harsh reality of systemic oppression and the dehumanization of the marginalized community he is assigned to police.

The narrative shifts into high gear when a calculated political conspiracy unfolds. A violent clash is engineered to justify a brutal state crackdown on the peaceful protesters. In the ensuing chaos, Basheer is killed under suspicious circumstances and framed as a victim of tribal violence to sway public opinion. This tragedy shakes Varghese to his core, leading him to realize that the “enemies” he was taught to hunt are actually the victims of a larger, more predatory system.

As Varghese uncovers the truth behind Basheer’s death and the corruption within the police hierarchy—spearheaded by DIG Raghuram Keshavadas—he undergoes a profound moral transformation. The film culminates in a tense and emotional showdown where Varghese must decide between his duty to the uniform and his conscience. It serves as a grim reflection on how state power can be manipulated to silence dissent, leaving the protagonist caught in the crossfire of a battle for justice.
